Thanks for the stellar summer, Starship Adventurers! You’ve lit up our library with your enthusiasm, enabling our reading rocket to reach the moon with a record number of reading hours. One hundred and eighty four of you signed up to participate and you logged in a combined total of 1670 reading hours! Through your reading, you’ve also donated hundreds of food items to our local food pantry. Many of you are now library stars! If you’ve finished your summer reading log, stop in and find your name in one of our constellations. And don’t forget, you can still receive your reading incentive and be made a star if you finish your reading log by the end of August.
We have many summer memories to cherish: life size dinosaurs, 1960’s rock-and-rollers, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, Chewbacca and Obi-Wan visiting our reading park, a family classical concert, magic show, storytelling and even a miniature planetarium presented in our reading room. During a particularly torrential morning, over one hundred and fifty of you were treated to one of the best puppet shows on the planet. You budding artists not only created rocket ships, giant bubbles and touring Martians but also had the opportunity to draw cartoons with award winning children’s illustrator, Marc Rosenthal. Mr. Rosenthal has generously agreed to return in September to read from his soon-to-be-released picture book, Archie and the Pirates, which looks to be his best work yet! Please stay tuned for more information on this upcoming pirate party and book signing!
Keep reading and reaching for the stars, Starship Adventurers!
